World War 1 was billed as “the war to end all wars.” Clearly it wasn’t, but the Battle of Armageddon will be. Jesus Christ’s coming at the end of the Tribulation puts a decisive end to man’s rebellion.
The antichrist has promised global heaven and delivered global hell. Literally. At the point where the antichrist is assassinated (Rev 13:3-4) and seemingly resurrected he is indwelt by Satan and rules under demonic power for 3½ years. He is given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation and that includes their armies. Plus, no doubt, he has his own special forces. The ten “kings” of the world give him their power and authority and they will wage war against the Lamb. Bad idea.
Apparently it wasn’t enough for Satan to just entice the world leaders and their citizens to bad mouth and pass resolutions against the Jews and the nation of Israel as is done today. And it won’t be enough for the antichrist to simply persecute and put the Jews to death. (Mt 24:9) Ultimately, as demanded by the antichrist, all the kings of the earth send their armies to surround Jerusalem in order to bring about its total desolation. (Lk 21:20)
“Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare for war! Come quickly, all you nations from every side, and assemble there. Bring down your warriors, O Lord! Let the nations be roused; let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the nations on every side.” (Joel 3:2)
The Bible tells us that this “idea” to wage war against Israel comes from demonic spirits “that perform signs and go out to the kings of the whole world to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.” (Rev 16:16) They gather at a staging area on the plain, in front of the ancient city of Megiddo which is on a hill (har). Thus, Har Megiddo, in our English, Armageddon. Interestingly, this is not the first time a major battle is fought here. Napoleon once stood at the valley of Megiddo and said that all the armies of the world could maneuver their forces on this vast plain. And indeed they will.
But it doesn’t end well for the bad guys because Jesus and all his armies (of saints) wage war and win. He is called Faithful and True and with justice He wages war. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is the Word of God. His army is dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of His mouth is a sharp sword (Word of God) that is used to strike down all the nations. (Rev 19:11-16) Jesus as the Lamb of God is gone and Jesus executing the wrath of God takes center stage. On His robe and thigh is written Lord of Lords and King of Kings.
Talk about the contrast, look at the two different suppers. Just before this decisive battle the marriage supper of the Lamb takes place in Heaven and it’s at that time the saints receive their white garments. Immediately after Armageddon, God sends an angel to summon the birds to feast on the flesh of the vanquished, kings, generals and all people great and small.
The antichrist and false prophet are captured and thrown alive into the lake of fire. The rest of the participants are killed with the sword (Word of God) from Jesus’ mouth. Satan is taken captive by an angel – not even a strong angel, just an everyday, ordinary angel – who seizes the mighty, fallen Satan. He is bound and thrown into the abyss which is locked and sealed.
After a thousand years he is released for a short time. Apparently he uses that time to dream up a new plan to deceive the nations. He gathers them together and again decides to take on God. This doesn’t end well either. This vast army from the four corners of the earth marches together to Jerusalem. This time God wastes no time and sends fire down from Heaven to devour them. Satan is now thrown into the lake of fire where the antichrist and false prophet have been since Armageddon. There they will stay for all eternity.

If you are a child of God, you are in good hands and there is the most wonderful eternity waiting for you. If you are not a Christ follower, now is a really good time to honestly explore the truth claims of the Bible.
